Philadelphia Sinfonia Kicks Off 2011-12 Season
Celebrating its 15th season of musical excellence, Philadelphia Sinfonia is over a month into a memorable year of great music-making! Both the chamber orchestra and the full orchestra have been working on some incredible repertoire. Tchaikovsky’s Suite from Swan Lake, Haydn’s Symphony No. 101, and Piazzolla’s Libertango are only a few of the selections that have been echoing through the sanctuary of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church over the last six weeks.
The chamber orchestra kicks off its concert season with a performance of Messiah on Sunday, December 4, at The First Presbyterian Church of Germantown. The orchestra will be joined by the church’s choir, soloists, and professional instrumentalists in a collaboration that has become a tradition. The full orchestra joins the chamber orchestra for its first full performance of the season at the same location on January 22, 2012. This special concert will include a side-by-side performance with students from Play On, Philly!, an education program which promotes social progress through music education. Other season highlights include a side-by-side rehearsal with the world-renowned Philadelphia Orchestra and a return visit to The Kimmel Center in May for a concert that will feature Brahms’s epic Symphony No. 2.

Philadelphia Sinfonia youth orchestra supports the artistic
growth of young musicians in the Delaware Valley by providing
high-level ensemble experience in a supportive educational
environment.
We believe that the pursuit of excellence requires performers
with integrity, working together toward a common goal. Thus,
our mission is three-fold: to provide ensemble performance
opportunities for young musicians, to achieve the highest
level of artistic advancement, and to educate young people
broadly to be strong citizens and leaders as well as responsible musicians.
We recruit from a demographically diverse student population
to provide an opportunity to anyone who musically qualifies
and to enrich the experience of all members of the organization. |
